About Us
Welcome to Eastport Windjammers / Harris Whale Watching.
We’re a family-run business with roots on the water going back to 1944, when George Harris Sr. first started taking people out for fishing trips. In those early days, it was all about sharing a love for the ocean and making a living the honest way, something that still guides us today.
As the years went on, our connection to these waters only grew stronger. In 1976, we began offering whale watching trips, giving people the chance to experience the incredible marine life that has always been part of our daily lives.
In 1984, the business was passed down to the next generation when George Harris Jr., better known as Butch Harris, took the helm. He carried on the same traditions his father started—hard work, local knowledge, and treating every guest like part of the family.
From 2002 to 2014, our whale watching trips were run aboard the schooners Sylvina W. Beal and later the Ada C. Lore, continuing a long tradition of working vessels and authentic experiences on the water.
Today, we’re still family owned and operated out of Eastport, Maine. While a lot has changed over the years, our approach hasn’t. We keep things simple, honest, and focused on giving you a real experience out on the ocean.
When you join us, you’re not just booking a trip, you’re stepping into a piece of our family’s history and a way of life we’re proud to continue.
We hope to welcome you aboard.
