For several generations the Harris family has been among the most knowledgable seafaring men and women of the area. The late Captain George S. Harris, Sr. and his wife of over 50 years Jean resided in the home in which he was born on Harris Point. Among the descendants of children and their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are several more sea captains, boat builders, professional fishermen, and professional divers. Whether you sail with son Captain George S. "Butch" Harris, Jr. on the Sylvina W. Beal or fish with other family members on the Quoddy Dam, you will experience many years of knowledge and enjoy several generations of stories. There are two cruises planned each day on the Sylvina W. Beal plus special group cruises. The afternoon whale watching cruise out through Head Harbor Passage past East Quoddy Lighthouse to the whale feeding grounds will last over three hours. It leaves the Eastport Breakwater Pier at 1:30 PM. The evening sunset cruise is planned to be two hours of enjoyable sailing. It leaves the Eastport Breakwater Pier at 7 PM. Four hours is the usual length of the morning fishing trip on the Quoddy Dam. It leaves the Eastport Breakwater Pier at 8 AM. A variety of sailing adventures can be planned on the newly built schooner Halie & Matthew. These range from a sail of several hours to a week of sailing in and out of ports along the Maine coast. Nature is at her best on all of these outings. Bring along your camera and binoculars. You are also welcome to join the family at Harris Point Shore Cabins & Motel (207-853-4303) where they have a motel, cabins, RV hookups, and tenting spots. Harris Point is surrounded by salmon pens and tidal pools where you can relax and learn from a variety of family members. You'll enjoy every moment of your visit.
The mode of transportation for arrival in Eastport is your choice.
If you arrive by land in a vehicle, on bicycles, or by foot, downtown Eastport is about seven miles from the intersection of Routes 1 and 190. On Route 190 you'll travel through the home of the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point. West's Coastal Connection bus from Bangor stops at the intersection of Routes 1 and 190. By sea you can arrive in your own vessel in the Eastport Breakwater area or by ferry from New Brunswick. The Eastport Municipal Airport is only 1.6 miles from the historic downtown Eastport waterfront. You can arrive in your own plane.
