Both the Quoddy Dam for fishing trips and the Janna Marie for whale watching have been frequently used in the past for charters and groups of all ages. The Quoddy Dam will continue to be used for fishing charter and some wildlife discovery groups while the schooner Sylvina W. Beal will be used for whale watching and other wildlife discovery groups.
Charter your own special cruise aboard the Sylvina W. Beal. Your school group, company, land trust, family, and friends will enjoy a bird watching trip, scenic trip, sunset sail, or whale watching trip. Leaving downtown Eastport, we sail the waters between Eastport and Campobello Island, amid spectacular scenery and plentiful wildlife. Call us soon to schedule your special trip.
Captain Butch Harris has experience with school aged groups through his affiliation with Dr. Carl L. Merrill, III, the director of the Robert S. Friedman Field Station of Suffolk University located on the shores of Cobscook Bay in Edmunds, Maine. They have worked together for several years on the Boston Museum of Science Marine Science Field Experience where students come to Maine to learn and enjoy the wonders in and around Cobscook Bay. The experiences of one of these groups can be enjoyed in photos and text in the book Ultimate Field Trip 3, Wading into Marine Biology. Whether your group is elementary, middle, or high school aged, you'll enjoy and learn much from this sailing and/or fishing adventure. Even though a two or four-hour tour won't allow for all that is covered in a week long course, much will be accomplished. University students can use this as a hands-on supplement to their course work or as a relaxing time away from the campus. Many adult and senior groups will also enjoy this sailing and/or fishing experience. For seniors who would like a longer experience, Elderhostel [Elderhostel photos] offers programs in the Eastport, Maine and Campobello Island, New Brunswick area that include several sails on the Sylvina W. Beal.
